Koine Booth

Prepare and run live translation from the Mac or Windows computer connected to the room's sound and screens.

Public version 0.1.2 · Updated 28 August 2026

Install Booth

macOS

  1. Download the universal DMG from the Booth page.
  2. Open it and drag Koine into Applications.
  3. Open Koine from Applications and allow microphone access.

The public app supports Apple silicon and Intel Macs and is signed and notarized.

Windows

  1. Download the 64-bit Windows 11 installer.
  2. Run KoineSetup and open Koine from the Start menu.
  3. Allow microphone access when Windows asks.

Use the installed copy rather than a portable package so updates can work correctly.

Sign in and find your events

Continue with Google or use email and password. Work or school SSO appears under More options when your organization has configured it.

Open My events. A personal operator sees events they created or were assigned. A paired room console sees only events for its room. Organization-wide planning and shared-library maintenance remain in Platform.

Prepare an event

  1. Open an event from My events or schedule one for yourself.
  2. Confirm its title, time and existing room.
  3. Select an existing preset or speaker if needed.
  4. Choose the spoken input language and listener languages.
  5. Review Hours & recording and save.

Booth can select shared rooms, presets and speakers, but it cannot create or maintain those organization resources.

Connect and test audio

A direct feed from a mixer or USB audio interface normally gives better results than the computer microphone.

  1. Open Prepare → Audio, or choose Test sound from Overview.
  2. Choose the appropriate source profile and actual input device.
  3. Play normal speech through the source.
  4. Confirm that the meter moves and run the audio check.
  5. Resolve input, level or permission warnings before the room fills.

Public Booth 0.1.2 does not include direct computer-audio capture. For playback from another app, use a supported audio link, mixer/interface loopback or virtual audio input.

Invite and test listeners

  1. Open Invite listeners or the QR button.
  2. Scan the code with a real phone on the venue network.
  3. Choose a listening language and confirm captions arrive.
  4. Copy the link, print the QR poster or open the listener preview.

An event in a room prefers the room's permanent listener link. The event-specific code remains available as a fallback. Never print a local or unreachable test address.

Start and monitor the event

  1. Confirm the selected input, moving meter, languages, QR test, recording policy and screen preview.
  2. Choose Go live.
  3. Watch source and language health, original text and translations.
  4. Approve requested languages if automatic approval is off.
  5. Use Pause for breaks and Resume when speech continues.
  6. End only when the event is finished.

Treat a red source, connection or language warning as an active outage. If the app refreshes while live, follow its Resume audio prompt.

Put translation on screen

Open Prepare → Add tools → Screen setup. Choose original speech, translation or both; select up to two translated languages; then set position and appearance.

Public Booth 0.1.2 supports direct second-screen output, a floating desktop overlay and permanent or event-specific screen links. See Screens and presentations.

Finish and review the recording

If the event policy saved a recording, allow about 90 seconds after ending. Owners and administrators then use Platform → Recordings. The organization-wide archive is intentionally not available inside Booth.
