Connect an assistant

Use Koine in Claude or ChatGPT.

Connect your Koine account to Claude or ChatGPT and ask about the events you attended, the notes and highlights you saved, and what was said. The connection only reads. It cannot change or delete anything in Koine.

Claude, Claude Code and ChatGPT · Updated 19 October 2026

Before you connect

  • A Koine account. Use the same account you sign in with in the Koine app, so your synced events, notes and highlights are there.
  • Claude on the web, desktop or mobile, Claude Code, or ChatGPT.
  • Every signed-in Koine account can connect. Your assistant’s plan and workspace settings determine whether custom connectors are available.

You use your Koine sign-in on Koine's own page. Claude and ChatGPT never see your Koine password; they receive a read-only key for the account you choose.

Connect in Claude

If Koine appears in Claude's connector directory, choose it there and select Connect. Otherwise add it as a custom connector:

  1. In Claude, open Customize, then Connectors, and choose Add custom connector. On a Team or Enterprise plan, an Owner adds it under Organization settings → Connectors.
  2. Name it Koine and paste this server address. Leave the advanced settings empty.https://mcp.getkoine.com/api/listener/mcp
  3. Choose Connect. Koine's page opens: sign in, check the account it shows, and choose Connect Koine.
  4. Back in Claude, turn Koine on in a chat and ask a question.

Koine's Claude setup page shows the same address with a copy button and opens Claude's connector page. A connection made in Claude on the web also works in the Claude desktop and mobile apps. The first time Claude wants to show a Koine card, it asks you first; answers work as text either way.

Connect in Claude Code

  1. In a terminal, add Koine:claude mcp add --transport http koine https://mcp.getkoine.com/api/listener/mcp
  2. Start Claude Code, type /mcp, select koine and choose Authenticate.
  3. Your browser opens Koine's page. It says Koine for Claude Code and that access goes to Claude Code on this computer. Sign in and choose Connect Koine.

Only continue if you started connecting from Claude Code yourself. Claude Code receives access on the computer where it runs.

Connect in ChatGPT

If Koine appears in ChatGPT's app directory, open it there and choose Connect. Until Koine is published there, a ChatGPT account whose workspace allows custom apps can add https://sermonbridge-backend-production.up.railway.app/api/listener/mcp on ChatGPT on the web, with OAuth sign-in and the client ID and secret left empty. Existing ChatGPT connections can keep this address. Finish connecting in one go: an interrupted first setup can leave the app without its tools.

What the assistant can read

Only the Koine account you choose, and only what that account may already see in Koine:

Your profileThe account's name and email, so the assistant knows which account it reads.
Your eventsEvent history synced to your account or a device linked to it, with what the event page shows: kind, time, place, speaker and planned passage, and an organization host's public profile. It can also tell when one of your events is live.
Notes and highlightsYour personal notes, highlights, pen marks and saved Bible verses, with the moment they mark.
Saved photos and slidesRead as text: the words on a slide and a description of the image, plus your caption. Never the image itself.
TranscriptsThe transcript the event host makes available to your account, including new live speech. Every read checks your attendance and the host's transcript and replay settings again.
Shared slidesThe slides and photos the host shared during the event, as text, under the same rules as the transcript.
Events you hostAudience counts for your private workspace and every organization you can act for: how many people joined and listened, for how long, by language and platform, and how many questions were asked and answered. Never who attended, their devices or what they asked.

Only available, retained transcript text can be read. A connection does not restore speech that was never kept or change an event's retention settings. Transcripts come from speech recognition, so names, numbers and references can be misheard.

The tools Koine gives the assistant

All twelve are read-only: get_profile, list_events, get_current_event, list_notes, list_highlights, list_photos, search_transcript, get_transcript_passage, get_transcript, get_slides, list_hosted_events and show_koine, which shows events, notes, highlights and transcripts as cards. No tool accepts a web address, account ID or device code, and knowing an event code alone never gives access to its transcript.

During the event and afterwards

Join the event in Koine with the account you connected. In ChatGPT or Claude, ask what the speaker has said so far, ask for an explanation, or ask about a point you highlighted. A follow-up can fetch new speech from the available live transcript. The assistant reads text when you ask; it does not listen to your microphone or continuously follow the event in the background.

After the event, ask about the transcript the organizer still makes available and your synced notes and highlights. Unretained speech cannot be reconstructed. You can connect both ChatGPT and Claude to the same Koine account; each connection has its own permissions and can be disconnected separately. Your assistant's own plan and usage limits apply.

The connection is available to every signed-in Koine account. Directory availability depends on publication and your assistant’s plan, region and workspace settings.

Read-only, by design

The connection cannot create, edit or delete anything in Koine. It cannot start or end events, send messages, change settings, or see other people's notes. Reads never update your Koine data. The read-only key works only for this connection, not for signing in to Koine.

Things to ask

  • Show my recent Koine events. A list or cards of the events synced to your account.
  • What did I highlight at my last event? Your highlights and notes from that event, in your own words.
  • What did the speaker say about forgiveness? The assistant searches the transcript and reads just the passages that match.
  • Summarize the full available transcript of my current event. A summary of everything said so far; a follow-up a few minutes later fetches only the new speech.
  • How many people listened to the last event I hosted, by language? Audience counts only.

Disconnect

  • In Claude: open Customize → Connectors, choose Koine and disconnect or remove it.
  • In ChatGPT: open the Koine app in settings and disconnect it.
  • In Koine: open the connection page, sign in and choose Disconnect next to the connection. It lists Claude, Claude Code and ChatGPT separately.

Access stops on the assistant's next request. Disconnecting one assistant leaves the others connected. A connection lasts up to 90 days; after that the assistant asks you to connect again. Disconnecting does not delete what is already in a conversation; that follows the assistant's own settings.

Privacy

The assistant receives Koine data only when it uses a Koine tool. Claude's use and retention of that data follow Anthropic's terms, privacy policy and your Claude settings; ChatGPT's follow OpenAI's. Koine stores only scrambled (hashed) copies of connection keys. Read the privacy policy for the full terms of this optional connection.

If something is missing

  • You cannot connect. Check that you signed in to the same Koine account as in the app. If the page still says private preview, contact us and include the server address you used.
  • You sign in with Apple. On Koine's page choose More sign-in options, sign in in the new tab, then come back and choose Check sign-in.
  • An event is missing. Only events synced to your account or a linked device can be read. History kept only on one phone is not available.
  • A transcript is incomplete. The host decides whether a transcript is kept and who can read it afterwards. The assistant says when it could not read from the start.
  • Cards do not appear. Allow Claude to show Koine's card when it asks. Text answers work without cards.
